2012 Mid Atlantic Harp Festival Registration Form (PDF)
The popular Mid Atlantic Harp Festival returns in March 2012, with feature artist Elisabeth Remy Johnson, principal harpist of the Atlanta Symphony. Elizabeth will offer a Master class on Saturday and perform our closing concert. Events also include an opening concert by the American Youth Harp Ensemble, guest speakers such as Anne Sullivan and Ivan Gardner, a variety of vendors, and the 2nd Annual Student Scholarship Competition, now featuring two divisions.
And, of course, lots of free food!
HOW TO REGISTER:
Print and complete the registration form and send with check or money
order made out to AHS/DC.

REGISTRATION FEES:
Your registration fee covers all workshops and concerts presented at the concert. It does not cover the fees for harp regulation, Scholarship Competition or participation in Master class.
GETTING TO THE FESTIVAL:
Providence Baptist Church is located at 8980 Brook Road in
McLean, Virginia, 22102. It is visible at the intersection of Lewinsville Road and
Route 7 West. Church building is located in McLean, Virginia, just off of Route 7 (Leesburg Pike). Traveling west on Route 7 from Tysons Corner, turn right onto Lewinsville Road, which is the second light just past the Dulles Toll Road, and then take an immediate left onto Brook Road. Ours is the big brick building on the corner.
MASTER CLASS RULES AND GUIDELINES:
There is a $50 fee to participate in the master class.
Selection for the class is at the discretion of Ms. Remy Johnson
Participants must be registered for the festival. This Master class is limited to 6 students. If not selected to participate in the master class, your master class fee will be refunded to you. Please note that festival registration is non refundable.
Students will be notified by February 15, 2012, of their selection status for the class.
SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION RULES/GUIDELINES:
There is a $25 non refundable fee to enter the competition, and students must also be registered for the festival in order to compete and be members of the AHS DC Chapter and reside in the AHS region of MD,DC,DE,VA,PA,WV or NJ. Students Must be 18 years or younger. Previous competition winners are not eligible to compete for the year after winning a prize at the competition.
Students may only compete in only 1 Division-choose either Young Artist or Emerging Talent Division. There is no minimum age requirement for either division, but students must be 18 years or younger for both divisions.
Repertoire: Students will play the required piece and one free choice solo. Combined timing of both pieces should not exceed 10 minutes. Only solos are permissible. Concertos are only permissible if they can be performed as a solo without the orchestral accompaniment.
Young Artist Required Repertoire:

Dances by Carlos Salzedo.
Emerging Talent Required piece:
Glissando Waltz by Mozart (found in Suzuki Book 2)
Students must submit a one page hand written essay outlining their experiences with the harp and detailing how they would use the scholarship to further their study of the harp.
The competition will take place throughout the day on Saturday March 3, 2012, and individual times will be assigned.
Prizes:
Young Artist Division: $100 first prize, $75 second prize, $50 third prize
Emerging Talent Division: $75 first prize, $50 second prize, $25 third prize
Honorable mentions will be at the judges’ discretion and may or may not be awarded.
Applications are due January 15, 2012. Please submit all materials in one mailing.
TICKET INFORMATION:
Tickets to individual programs and concerts will be sold at the door for a cost of $20/concert or program. Cash or check required. Credit cards cannot be accepted. These tickets will be sold on a space available basis.
Family fee: A family fee of $20 will apply for any family members who are non-harpists who would like to accompany their student harpist under the age of 18 with a paid registration. This family fee is good for 3 additional family members to accompany their harpist.
HARP REGULATION APPOINTMENTS:
Appointments for harp regulation are available with Ivan Garder, Lyon and Healy & Salvi certified harp technician, appointments must be made in advance and payment is due to Ivan at time of service.
